In 1923, the organisation launched the Burial Society and in 1942, the African Peoples Organisation was registered as a limited liability Funeral Assurer in terms of the companies act.
In 2002, Commlife Holdings acquired the APO Burial Society and renamed it Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company.
