Tony Lawrence, the biker ambassador for Leliebloem Child and Youth Care Centre undertook a 1090km solo ride on his motorcycle, for fund raising, starting at the present site of the Leliebloem Centre, at 6 am, on the morning of the 8th of September 2017 and ending at the Holiday Inn at 8pm on the same day. Leliebloem is in its 150th year of existence and was previously built on the site where the Holiday Inn on Mandela Boulevard Cape town is situated today. As part of the celebrations a formal dinner was held at the said Holiday Inn. We were not only the proud sponsors of Tony Lawrence, but Lion of Africa, also sponsored a monetary amount to the Leliebloem Centre, which has been providing humanitarian services since 1868. It was truly a proud moment to be able to be part of these celebrations.

Beit Ul Aman and Beaconvale Frail Care Centre
Mandela Day 2017 Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company Limited sponsored The Beit Ul Aman as well as Beaconvale Frail Care Centre on 17 July 2017.
A wonderful atmosphere amongst the staff and those present was created whilst we got to assist in serving beverages. This gave staff an opportunity to interact with those living at the shelters and to give back to the community in the best way they could.
Our contributions of Groceries and Toiletries brought great joy to the shelter as well as Management of the above mentioned homes expressed their gratitude.
UWC Football Club
The UWC Football Club has since established itself through the decades as a formidable club in the Western Cape and nationally; through the Tertiary Football Competitions under the auspices of University Sport South Africa. The club has produced and developed players with exceptional talent into quality football players. Warp speed to 2015, of which the highlight was being crowned the Varsity Football Champions beating the likes of University of Johannesburg, TUKS and WITS along the way.
UWC Football competes in the Castle, SASOL and the LFA Leagues. UWC also participates in the University South Africa (USSA) National and Western Cape competition. With the generous sponsor and partnership with Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company Limited, UWC Football Men has chartered new territory during the 2016/17 season taking part in the SAB League. UWC Football is managed by a strong Executive Committee and Management Team reporting to the UWC Sport Board. Our sport facilities of world class standards on campus affords the club to operate and function optimally with access to sport science support services which include the Physiotherapy and Biokinetics Clinics, dedicated strength and conditioning gymnasium and aquatic centre.
The Haven Night Shelter
Mandela Day 2015 Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company Limited sponsored The Haven Night Shelter on 17 July 2015. Breakfast was made and served by the staff. A wonderful atmosphere amongst the staff and those present was created. This gave staff an opportunity to interact with those living at the shelter and to give back to the community in the best way they could.
Blankets, Toothpastes, toothbrushes, soaps and facecloths were donated on the day. The Haven Night Shelter District Six is registered as a non-profit organization operating under the auspices of The Haven Night Shelter Organization. The organization has 12 shelters in the Western Cape which assists up to 1400 people on a day to day basis.
Our contributions brought great joy to the shelter and Sheila Jacobs the Manager of the home expressed her gratitude.
Sabelani Football Club
Lion of Africa Life Assurance sponsored the Sabelani football club in PE in October 2014. The Sabelani football club was formed 7 years ago by the Catholic church in Norwood (Mthatha). It is an initiative which supports the youth/children with the intention to keep them away from the streets, unproductive behaviours like drinking, doing drugs and theft.
SAPS Western Province Pool Association
Lion of Africa Life Assurance Sponsored the South African Police Service Western Province Pool Association. The SAPS Black Ball Pool Championship took place on 26th – 31st October 2014 in Worcester, Klein Plaasie. The South African Police Service Western Cape Blackball Pool Association was established in 2005. The Pool Association is one of many sporting organizations within the South African Police Service. This venture was started to afford members an opportunity to excel in their talent and abilities within the South African Police Service.
Kukhanyile Primary School in Khayelitsha
Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company Limited sponsored Kukhanyile Primary School in Khayelitsha. Due to unfortunate circumstances there were a number of children in need of basic school uniform. On 11th August 2014 CEO Paul Myeza from Lion of Africa donated school shoes to pupils of various ages. Much joy and excitement was created amongst those who received it and those who were present.
Mandela Day 2014
Mandela Day, also known as Nelson Mandela International Day was held on 18th July in 2014. The day remembers Mandela’s achievements in working towards conflict resolution, democracy, human rights, peace and reconciliation. On this day Lion of Africa Life Assurance visited Girls and Boys Town in Kenilworth, Christine Revell in Athlone, Bonginkosi Educare Centre in Khayelitsha and donated non-perishables as well as hygiene care packages.
Mitchells Plain Holiday Club
Lion of Africa Life Assurance sponsored a holiday club event in Mitchells Plain between 11th July – 18th July 2014. The focus of the event was a kids program which aimed to give faith and hope to the attending children despite the circumstances they find themselves in.
Sharma Eduplay Group
Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company Ltd sponsored the Sharma Eduplay Group (crèche) in Steenberg. Due to heavy rain the crèche was a victim of a leaking roof which made the learning environment unpleasant. The crèche consists of 15 children aged between 3 and 5 years. Lion of Africa visited the crèche on the 2nd of July 2014, after the repairs were completed and were greeted by thankful children and teachers, who could now continue their journey of education.
Yabonga is a non-governmental organisation which supports those infected with or directly affected by HIV/Aids, striving to create an effective, sustainable model of care that heightens self-esteem and creates job opportunities.
The women of Yabonga are given the opportunity to be peer educators, allowing them to empower their community with HIV awareness, counselling and education, effecting positive change. The organisation is underpinned by the principles of positive living, personal development and income generation.
Lion of Africa has chosen to partner with this brave initiative as it is aligned to our corporate ethos of socio economic empowerment and the health and wellbeing of less privileged communities.

Blanket Distribution / Winter Warmth program
Each year as the harsh Cape winter approaches, blankets are distributed to organisations helping those in need. This year our beneficiaries include the Erica Day Centre (Mitchell’s Plain), The Haven Night Shelter (Redhill), Giving Hands (Jagtershof), Beit-ul-Aman (Wynberg), Vision Child and Youth Centre (Mount View) and St Georges Home for Girls (Wynberg).
Lion of Africa Life assists charities in the Western Cape with meat donations for meals, distributed to those who would otherwise go to sleep hungry. In the past we have supplied Kensington Old Age Home, GH Starcek (Hanover Park), Sheikh Keraan (Kensington), Rusthof Old Age Home (Paarl), New World Foundation (Lavender Hill), The Haven Night Shelter (Wynberg) and the City of Cape Town.
Mandela Day 2013
Mandela Day was celebrated on 18th July 2013, a day on which every South African is encouraged to give 67 minutes of their time to remember the struggle of Nelson Mandela and his 27 years spent in prison. On this day Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company Ltd visited St Joseph’s home and handed out blankets.
Nonkqubela Day Care Centre
Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company Ltd recently sponsored the Nonkqubela Day Care Centre in gugulethu. The centre was a victim of crime where the building was vandalised, stationery and personal belongings were stolen. The day care centre exists for more than 30 years and currently looks after 150 children aged between 2 to 6 years. Lion of Africa visited the crèche on 6th December 2013 where we handed out stationery and cleaning items.
